Villa Ranch – Outfitting ServicesVilla Ranch and Windy Gulch Wilderness Study Area (Bureau of Land Management [BLM] area), are both located in Game Management Unit 11. A portion of this operation is conducted on Public Lands under special recreation permit SRP 022 – Krueger from the BLM.
The Villa Ranch is located at 6561 County Road 7, about 11 miles northwest of Meeker, Colorado. Strawberry Creek flows through the eastern portion of the ranch along County Road 7. This working cattle ranch has about 2500+ acres of mixed forage – grass fields, native grasses, sage, oak brush, cedar and juniper trees on fields, rolling hills, steep hillsides and rocky outcroppings. The ranch is cross-fenced for crop production and range management and has a network of many miles of farm roads.
The adjoining Bureau of Land Management Windy Gulch Wilderness Study Area covers the next several ridges to the west (permitted area is about 13,000 acres). This high, rugged terrain is excellent elk habitat with the nearest water for game located on the adjacent Villa Ranch. No motorized vehicles are allowed on this portion of the BLM, but former jeep roads have become great walking and horseback trails. Hunters can hunt horseback or on foot and then have game packed out by horseback.
